These extraordinary earrings were originally purchased in Paris in the early 1900s by an aristocratic Egyptian family whose name remains synonymous with wealth and refinement in Cairo to this day. They were gifted to me many years later by the family’s matriarch—an elegant and formidable woman whose warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on me.
I was working abroad at the time, immersed in international human rights work, and somehow our paths crossed in a way that felt both unexpected and inevitable. She saw something in me—perhaps a kindred spirit or perhaps just someone who needed a little beauty in her life—and she placed these earrings in my hand as if she had always meant to.
The earrings themselves are stunning: antique platinum in an intricate openwork design, set with brilliant white diamonds and a richly saturated sapphire drop in each. Though originally clip-ons, they were later expertly converted to dangle earrings, preserving their old-world charm while offering ease of wear.
